I am a professor of psychology at George Fox University, where I teach and serve as the director of faith integration in the graduate department of clinical psychology. George Fox was my first academic position starting in 1984 after doing Ph.D work at Vanderbilt University. Then in 1993 my family and I journeyed to the Midwest for a 13-year stint at Wheaton College. Lisa and I enjoyed those years immensely, but always yearned to come home to Oregon. In 2006 we found our way back to Oregon, and to George Fox University. Since returning we have also developed a small farm we call Fern Creek.

My career has been marked with some nice milestones, including being a licensed psychologist in Oregon, board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology, Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), and a past president of the APA’s Psychology of Religion division. I’ve enjoyed writing books such as Integrative Psychotherapy (co-authored with Clark D. Campbell, 2007), Sin and Grace in Christian Counseling (2008), and Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling (updated in 2011).

These days Lisa and I find ourselves speaking and thinking a good deal about downward mobility. Or maybe that’s not even the right term. I think growing tomatoes and tending honeybees is just as high a calling as all the things that bring accolades in the academic world.

Lisa and I have been married 33 years. Together we raised three daughters, who are now grown, married, and proud parents of our three amazing grandchildren. We attend Newberg Friends Church.
